Hawaii among the worst states for mental illness treatment, study says

HONOLULU - A new study shows Hawaii ranks top in the nation for health system performance.
Research company Commonwealth Fund ranked states based on various criteria including residents' access to and affordability of healthcare, as well as prevention and treatment options.
The study also found the number of deaths by suicide, alcohol, and drugs in Hawaii rose steadily between 2005 and 2017. Suicide in particular, saw an 85 percent increase between that period.
The study also found Hawaii is among the worst states, where adults with any mental illness do not receive treatment.
