Air assets including HFD’s Air 1 and Air 2 provided water drops in the effort to stop the brush fire from crossing Kaukonahua Road. 

No structures or electrical wires were in the area.The fire came within 100 yards of Poamoho Stream and was snuffed out, according to fire officials.

Operations were suspended due to darkness and safety of personnel. The fire was reported to be 90% contained at the end of operations and burned approximately 525 acres by Monday evening.

An assessment will be conducted Tuesday to determine appropriate actions needed.


Honolulu firefighters are still battling a brush fire that first sparked just after 1 p.m. Sunday.

HFD responded to the brush fire Monday morning near Poamoho Stream and Schofield Range.

Over 300 acres has burned so far and firefighters say wind is an issue. 

The fire is not yet under control.
