UH baseball falls to UCSB in extra innings on senior day

The Rainbow Warriors (20-27, 8-13 Big West) led 3-1 in the top of the ninth before the Gauchos (44-7, 18-3 Big West) rallied to tie the game to force extra innings. In the 11th, UCSB added three more runs to earn the extra-inning victory.
Hawai'i had a 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout from Maaki Yamazaki in the first to score Scotty Scott. The lead grew to 2-0 when Dallas Duarte launched his first career home run over the wall in left in the second inning.
A sacrifice fly off the bat of Thomas Rowan in the third gave the Gauchos their first run to cut the UH lead to 2-1.
Playing his final home game at Les Murakami Stadium, Yamazaki went out in style with an eighth-inning solo home run down the right field line to make it 3-1.
The Gauchos leveled the scoring on a single from Cole Mueller to score two runs in the ninth. The 11th-inning runs came on a sacrifice fly from Marcos Castanon and a two-RBI single off the bat of Michael McAdoo.
Logan Pouelsen had a strong outing on the mound for UH, going 6.0 innings with five strikeouts while allowing just one run on four hits. Dylan Thomas went 3.0 innings and allowed two runs on three hits while also striking out five. Colin Ashworth, Jeremy Wu-Yelland and Carter Loewen finished out the extra innings for the Rainbow Warriors.
Following the game, UH honored Kash Koltermann, Dominic DeMiero, Yamazaki, Ashworth and Lopez with a senior day ceremony.
UCSB is ranked in the national polls and is number six in the Collegiate Baseball poll.
Next up, Hawai'i will close its season with a Big West road series at Long Beach State. The three-game set is scheduled for May 23-25 in Long Beach, Calif.
