UH softball falls to UC Davis in season finale
The University of Hawaii softball team (33-16, 14-7 Big West) fell in their final game to UC Davis )(39-14, 13-8 Bug West), 5-1 on Senior Night.
HONOLULU—The University of Hawaii softball team (33-16, 14-7 Big West) fell in their final game to UC Davis )(39-14, 13-8 Bug West), 5-1 on Senior Night. Brittnee Rossi made a couple highlight reel plays in centerfield and hit a solo home run on Friday night at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
In the top of the second, UC Davis took an early 1-0 lead. Alyse Rojas reached on a fielding error at second which allowed Meghan Bradbury to hustle home as the ball ricocheted in to rightfield. The Aggies threatened to score later in the inning as Rojas advanced to third on a wild pitch. But the 'Bows Lopez snagged a line drive at short and Brittnee Rossi made a diving catch sprinting in towards the infield on a looper to center.
In the third, Maddie Rojas hit a grand slam to extend UC Davis' lead to 5-0.
Brittnee Rossi, launched a solo home run to left field to break up the no-hitter and shutout with one swing of the bat. It was Rossi's sixth home run of the season and
Hawai'i pitcher Brittany Hitchcock suffered the loss, falling to 20-8 overall. She allowed five runs on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts. She finished her career with 75-46 record.
UC Davis' Brooke Yanez improved to 25-7 overall. She gave up just one run on one hit with a walk and 14 strikeouts.
In the loss, UH was able to start the game with all seven seniors on the field for their final collegiate game--Hitchcock was in the pitching circle, Heather Cameron was catching, Alyssa Sojka was at first, Jenna Kumabe was at second base, Nicole Lopez was at shortstop, Carly Pina was at third, and Jennifer Iseri was in leftfield.
