The No. 7 University of Hawaii beach volleyball team gave a valiant effort before exiting on Day 2 of the 2019 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship. UH blanked No. 8 Stetson, 3-0, before falling to top-seeded USC, 3-0, in an elimination match on Saturday.

The Rainbow Wahine continued it post-season success. UH, which finished in third the last two seasons, claimed its fourth straight NCAA top-four finish. The SandBows concluded its season at 28-11 overall, its third straight season with 25 or more wins.

USC (31-5), meanwhile, advanced to Sunday's semifinal against No. 5 LSU. The winner will play defending national champion UCLA in the final.

After going 1-1 on the opening day of the tournament, the SandBows found themselves in the contenders bracket needing two wins to advance to Championship Sunday. First up was Stetson (30-10), the only team in the NCAA tournament field UH had not faced this year.

And it was UH's bottom of the order that took care of business. UH went up 2-0 after wins by Kylin Loker-Hi'ilawe Huddleston on Court 4 and Morgan Martin-Pani Napoleon on Court 3. The No. 5 pairing of Norene Iosia and Sofia Russo, ultimately bagged the sweep of the Hatters. Playing just their fourth match together, the duo scored four consecutive points in the second set to  rally past Quinci Birker and Rebecca Ingram, 21-14, 22-20.

The win over Stetson set up a grudge match with USC who beat UH, 4-1, at the Arizona State Invitational earlier this season. The Women of Troy, however, would defeat UH for the second time. USC took flights 3,4, 5 – the same flights UH took in its earlier match versus Stetson.  The clinching point again came at No. 5 as Cammie Dorn-Mollie Ebertin defeated Iosia and Russo, 21-17, 21-14.

Three seniors made their final appearances for UH in Huddleston, Ari Homayun, and Emily Maglio. Homayun leaves the program as the school's all-time win leader with 118, while Maglio finished second all-time at UH in wins at 112.
