Happening this morning, thousands of runners and walkers take to the streets for this year's Great Aloha Run.

Participant Michelle Salvado said, "I'm getting a little bit older now and I want to do some health and fitness stuff. I really just focus on training my body... I want to get ready for another run which is the Honolulu marathon."

Over the past 35 years, the event helped raise more than 14-million dollars for over 150 local non-profit organizations.

The start line ceremony kicked off this morning at 6:30 and the race began at seven.
