HONOLULU - President Donald Trump signed a bill Friday to fund the government -- avoiding another partial shutdown.

Hawaii U.S. lawmakers spoke out about the president's declaration Friday.

Senator Brian Schatz called the declaration an "unlawful abuse of power."

In a released statement, Schatz said "We certainly cannot allow him to rob our military of $3.5 billion for construction projects...all to build a wall that will do nothing to protect America."

Senator Mazie Hirono also released a statement saying that the president's action is "desperate."

"Donald Trump is putting his vanity wall above the Constitution and the American people. The President has demonstrated time and again that he doesn't care that the chaos he creates results in wasted time and resources -- expended to clean up his mess," Hirono's statement read.
